Cross Country

After winning state last year, the Boys’ Cross Country team is shooting for gold again.  With a strong senior class leading the way, including Cooper Williams, Dylan Williams and Evan Johnson, the team feels good about this year.

Junior Andrius Kriauciunas says “We are training to win another state championship but would be happy with a podium finish”. The team is putting in the work to finish on top of the podium, but rival Carmel will be hard to beat.  Carmel returns a lot of their varsity runners and is always a tough competition for the Red Devils.

Last year’s seniors such as Jake Cohen and Travis Shinsky will not be there to help compete for another state championship.  Instead, younger runners such as Hawk Pusey, Isaiah Robyne and Mitchell Curl  will have to fill the spots.  “At the moment we still have to improve a lot until state, but we are getting better every week,” said Kriaciunas.  Even with great runners for the upperclassmen, the underclassmen could be a deciding factor when the team reaches state in October.

The seniors this year all have high hopes for the season and would all like to be able to say that they won state two years in a row.  Cooper Williams, a big key for the Devils if they want to win state, says “team wise, we are progressing with a lot of personal records and I think we are heading in a good direction.”  Another key runner is Evan Johnson.  He said “We have a strong team that can podium at state for the second year in a row.”  October 31st the Red Devils will be in Terre Haute trying to repeat as state champs.
