The Effect of Pets in Students’ Lives

FLUFFY FRIENDS: Asked about her pet, Leila Hassan answers questions and tells stories about her. She was relaxed during the interview and lit up whenever talking about her cat. When asked if she loved her cat, Leila answered yes and said, “When I was little, when she was a kitten, I used to play with her all the time.”

Pets, pets, pets. They are everywhere. Ranging from iguanas, tropical birds, sugar gliders, and the common dogs and cats, many people keep domestic animals in their homes. Approximately 44% of all U.S. households have a dog, and 35% have a cat. (Source: American Pet Products Association 2015-2016 (APPA)) Two students were interviewed about the impact that their pets have on their everyday lives. They also shared adorable stories about their pets as well. Are pets just companions to keep people less lonely or are there more to the owner and pet relationship than what can be seen on the surface?
