Winter friendly fashion is easy

It’s hard to find the motivation and energy even to look decent on school mornings during the winter. All you want to do is stay in your warm bed as long as possible and just walk right out the door wearing a onesie or the first article of  clothing you see. But with these simple tips, hopefully they will provide some inspiration to help you to get out of the pitfalls of sweatpants and leggings.

1. BLACK ON BLACK

It’s time to say goodbye to warm sunny weathers and bright neon colors and say hello to your inner mysterious and dark side. Whenever I am lazy, I always wear an entirely black outfit. It’s simple and makes you look instantly polished without even trying. If you’re skeptical about looking too dark, just add one piece with some color or pattern whether it be shoes, socks, jewelry, or a jacket.

2. LAYER, LAYER, LAYER

Layering is probably the best way to stay warm and the best part is that if you get too hot, you can always just take a layer off. That being said, layering takes some more effort and skill. Some basic layering pieces are collared shirts, sweaters, vests, cardigans, warm socks and leg warmers and scarves. You can even take out some of your summer clothes and wear them over tights and long warm socks to create a versatile piece. The key is to layer enough to stay warm but not so much that you look like a marshmallow or have trouble lifting your arms.

3. SCARVES AND HATS

Make scarves and hats a part of your outfit and not just something you put on when you are outside battling the wind. Beanies are a great way to look fashionable and “grunge” while giving you instant warmth, and they cover a bad hair day perfectly. Circle scarves are a must-have winter accessory. You don’t have to worry about how to tie the scarf and can instead just slip it on over your head. If you don’t have a circle scarf, just take a normal scarf and tie the ends together in a small knot, loop it around your neck twice or however many times necessary, and arrange it so that the knot is at the back.

4. THRIFT SHOP

Thrift shops like Goodwill have the best kind of sweaters. They are all very cheap and they have  a wide range of over sized chunky knit sweaters. The bigger and chunkier the sweater, the better. I always raid my dad’s closet to see what sweaters I can steal. Ugly old lady style sweaters are also quite cute.
