Kate French leaves her mark on the school
Kate French ’15 said that she first joined the robotics team because her brother was in it. Then she jokingly added, “if he can do it, then I can do it…then I did it better.”
French’15 has been on the team for four years now, and is the vice president along with president, Monica Bravo ’15.
“She’s my better half,” Bravo ’15 said. “A lot of people think that she’s shy and quiet, but she’s not.”
The two organize trips for the team and communicate between other schools with robotics teams. French said that since half of the team this year consists of Freshman, she is excited for all the new ideas and new people.
As part of the robotics team, French also attended a conference called Internet 2 at Indianapolis. She said that this was one of the highlights of her Senior year so far. She really enjoyed the experience of talking with other knowledgeable adults about the team’s work.
“Kate is an amazing student as well as a great leader,” said Mr. Florence, the robotics team coach. “If you want something done, give it to Kate.”
Another one of the highlights of her senior year has been her acceptance to the University of Pennsylvania. She plans on majoring in linguistics and minoring in political science and engineering.
Along with robotics, French ’15 also joined the swim team for the first time.
“It’s been fun, I wish I joined before,” she said.
She is also very involved at her church. She is the leader in her youth group and works in their nursery as well as volunteering at most of their main events.
French has an immense talent and passion for foreign languages.
“She’s very dedicated,” Tina Lu ’15 said.
She has taken both Spanish and French courses at school as well as at Purdue. She also participated in Indiana University Honors Program in foreign languages in the summer of 2013. She went to Saumur, France. She said that the experience was a ton of fun and that she really misses her host family.
