Off Campus: The Pink Walrus

FROYO FUN: The Pink Walrus has flavors from the standard Strawberry to Cookies ‘n Cream. I got the Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet and Blueberry Burst with a swirl of Peanut Butter. Photo by Kathrine Schulze
The Pink Walrus is a small frozen yogurt place on the far side of Lafayette in a little plaza called Concord Plaza, past Target and past the mall . It also houses Monster Mini Golf.
I have to admit that I am a bit of an enthusiast when it comes to frozen yogurt. Some might even call it an obsession. The point is, I love froyo and I am very picky about it. With that in mind, I walked into Pink Walrus expecting to be let down once again.
What I found was a decent mix between Red Mango and Orange Leaf.
The interior strayed from the typical, uncomfortable modern style of both the aforementioned yogurt establishments. The Pink Walrus was airy, with a beachy feel and plenty of comfortable, plush seating.
The yogurt, while not up to par with Red Mango, was still very good. It also did not make me feel as though I was eating ice cream like I often do at Orange Leaf. There were also more flavors than any other yogurt place I have visited.
The selection was a good blend of the healthy fruity and the more “ice cream-y” flavors and toppings. They had at least twenty flavors of frozen yogurt ranging from the standard flavors like strawberry to cookies ‘n cream.
They had everything from slices of fresh fruit, to mini chocolate turtles, to nerds for toppings.
Being fond of the more fruity flavors, I went with Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet and Blueberry Burst with a swirl of Peanut Butter, just because I am a firm believer that everything is better with peanut butter. I added on bunches of unhealthy toppings for good measure.
The Pomegranate Raspberry was a little too sour for my taste, but I really liked the Peanut Butter. It wasn’t so strong that I felt as though I was downing straight peanut butter, but it still had the same taste.
The Blueberry Burst tasted something akin to the Tropical Starburst™ of the same flavor.
My eating companion got Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Cookies n’ Cream. She thought they were perfectly fine, but was just a little annoyed that we had to drive nine miles just to get it.
It was our opinion that if you’re already over in Lafayette and have a hankering for frozen yogurt, The Pink Walrus is the place to be. Otherwise, sticking with the froyo places on the West side will more than suffice.
