We compiled our top tips for having the perfect Prom, even if you start planning at the last minute.

It’s that time again, that time of year where upperclassmen females seem to forget about everything in pursuit of the perfect shoes, dress, and date. That’s right, it’s almost time for prom. If you’re stressed or scrambling, here’s what to do:

Look Your Best

Ladies, if you don’t have a dress yet online shopping is not an option. However, there are still several places for a last minute save. David’s Bridal offers a decent selection of formal dresses for a reasonable price, and the plethora of retail stores in Indianapolis and Chicago, though pricey, could save you.

If you already have your dress–which most of you do– make sure that it fits exactly like it should, any major alterations may be tricky to come by, but for minor problems, there’s nothing a little fashion tape can’t fix. If your dress is wrinkled, DO NOT iron it. Get it steamed. At this point in the game, a ruined prom dress would be a big problem.

Gentlemen, you have an easy job. Hopefully by this point you have already rented your tux, just don’t forget to pick it up! On the off chance that you’ve procrastinated a bit too long, ask various tux shops about rush policies–or just buy one. You’ll use it later on in life. Also if you have the guile to show up in a tux that is any color other than black, you can expect to be made fun of.

When it comes to what to put on your feet, again men have a very easy decision ahead. Black dress shoes, if you don’t already have them, will be available for rental or purchase where you get your tux.

For the women this is–of course–a bigger deal. If you want to wear heels, do it. Just because your date is lacking in the height department does not mean you should have to settle. Plus, we all know everyone is going to take their shoes off anyway.

As far as things are concerned from the neck up, plan your hair style now. This way you won’t sound like a bumbling idiot when you’re in the chair. Perusing Pinterest is always a good way to find styles that are elegant and match the style of your dress.

Don’t go crazy with the make-up. I would suggest getting it done when you get your hair done, but if you’re doing it yourself, be careful. And guys, just make sure you comb your hair and brush your teeth when you get out of the shower.

The corsage should be understated-nothing flashy. The wrist is the only location that your flowers should be. Head to Rubia with a picture of your dress or vest in tow. Match to only one or two colors, and be done. Simple and the smaller it is, the cheaper it will be.

Getting There

When it comes to transportation, Lafayette Limo has been booked for weeks. Look around and see if any of your friends’ parents have a cool car that you could borrow for the night. If not, a mini-van would not be the end of the world. In fact, it could be fun, and definitely lead to some funny memories and comments.

Dinner Situations

Although getting a reservation for dinner could be difficult this late in the game, not everywhere will be completely full. Try calling around to McGraw’s or Bistro 501 and seeing if there are any open spots. If you don’t have luck with that, consider having a dinner at someone’s house. Everyone could chip in and bring a dish; delicious and affordable.

But Most Importantly…

If you do not have a date to prom, STILL GO TO PROM. If that is the only reason for not attending, than reconsider. Prom is not a date night, it is a night to enjoy with friends before the year is out. Gather a group of girls or guys and go. Don’t miss out.
