Spring sports bloom
Baseball: The team looks to bounce back from last season’s sectional championship loss to eventual state champions Western Panthers. The Red Devils do return a couple of key pieces from last year that helped them to a 20-win season. Returning players that saw quality playing time at the varsity level last season include Brian Bangs ’13, Lorenzo Domondon ’13, Drew Rudman ’13, Parker Ronchetto ’14, Carson Cruea ’13 and Brody Forbes ’13. “After losing 9 seniors from last years team some people will have to step up in some big ways,” said Domondon.
Softball: The Lady Red Devils are looking to improve from last season 15-16 record and second-round sectional loss. With the returning of 7 starters from last years team the Lady Red Devils look primed to capture their first sectional title since 2005. “We have a motto for our team this year which is: outwork, outplay, outlast and we are really holding each other accountable for a lot of this this season,” Madison Welch ’13.
Girls Tennis: The girls tennis team looks to win their second straight sectional title, but with the loss of several key components to last seasons team others will need to step up. However the squad does return Miriam Frank ’13 and Sasha Sokolchik ’15 the teams number 2 and 3 single players from last season. ” We just have to push ourselves all the way and give every work out and practice our all if we want to be successful,” said Sokolichik.
Track and Field: With the track team losing the usual 5-10 seniors and the new seniors stepping up, the West Side track team has high expectations when it comes to the upcoming season. “The track and field team’s goals for this season are to win conference, beat Lafayette Jeff in city-country, but more importantly help the underclassmen learn how to be leaders and become a more close-knit team,” said Malachi Baker ’13.
Boys Golf: As one of the underrated sports at West Side the boys golf team is ready to win under the leadership of coach Ambrose and the returning seniors. “I really believe we could go undefeated this season with our three seniors, Jay Chapman ’13, Gaurav Mittal ’13 and Christopher Park ’13, leading the way,” said Woojin Choe ’14.
