SHE HITS ‘EM ALL: Grace Malone ’14 is a two-sport athlete. She is now entering her last softball season.

Ever since she was young, Grace Malone has been playing and dominating every sport that she could get her hands on. Whether it be soccer, track, softball, swimming, or gymnastics, Malone has been highly active and working hard to make herself one of West Side’s most prominent athletes.

“She’s just really hard-working, and always positive with the team,” said teammate, Tess DeBruyn ’16

“My parents own Malone center, so that made it pretty easy to start various sports,” said Malone ’14. “But the thing is, my parents never forced me to do a sport that I didn’t want to do, and they supported whatever I decided to play. They also gave me a lot of positive reinforcement, so that was really great too.”

Though Malone plays several sports and plays them well, she is able to pick a favorite.

“If I had to pick one sport to play, I would probably pick volleyball,” said Malone. “It is just so physical and you are always active, and that is kind of the opposite in softball. You stand around a little too much.”

This is coming from someone who has taken softball to a higher level than most softball players.

“I actually got the chance to go play in the Dominican Republic, and it was so amazing,” said Malone. “While my team was there, we got the opportunity to play against the Dominican Republic National Team, and needless to say, we got creamed.”

Unfortunately, as Malone has gotten deeper into high school, she has needed to free up some time in the form of sports.

“I have had to quit some travel teams because they took up a lot of time, and I just couldn’t keep playing them all at the same time,” said Malone.

This year, Malone enters her last year that she will put on a Red Devil uniform and represent West Lafayette Jr. Sr. High School.

“I’m just excited to make the most of my last season by having a good time, and doing my best at a sport I love.”
