The madness all started on March 14, and it has been quite a ride through it all. People go and fill out a basketball bracket, which is divided into 4 sections. The East, West, South, and Midwest. Every section has 16 teams ranked from the best, #1-#16. Each section you predict which team is going to win each round all the way to the championship. Could it be most of the best ranked teams? or the lower ones?  At the beginning of it all, the best teams were winning, as predicted.  But when people think of March Madness, they pick some of the lower ranked teams because anything can happen.

At the beginning, a lot of the best teams were winning. Which was expected, but after that the games started becoming more stressful. Here is a list of the 1st round upsets: 11th ranked USC beat 6th ranked USC, 11th ranked Xavier beat 6th ranked Maryland, 9th ranked Michigan State beat 8th ranked Miami, 11th ranked Rode Island beat 6th ranked Creighton, 12th ranked Middle Tennessee, and 10th ranked Wichita State beat 7th ranked Dayton.

For all the other games in the sections, the top ranked teams won their first round against the lower teams. For the second round, some of the best ranked teams were knocked out. An example was when 7th ranked S. Carolina beat 2nd ranked Duke, 11th ranked Xavier beat 3rd ranked Florida State, and 7th ranked Michigan beat 2nd ranked Louisville. Then for the sweet sixteen upsets, 7th ranked South Carolina went on to beat 3rd ranked Baylor, and 11th ranked Xavier beat 2nd ranked Arizona.

For the final 4, there was 7th ranked South Carolina vs  number 1 ranked Gonzaga, and 3rd ranked Oregon vs number 1 ranked North Carolina. Even after all of the upsets, two of the four number 1 ranked team made it to the final championship. It was a stressful and close game, but overall it was an exciting championship. March Madness is full of emotions, but in the end it’s fun and interesting to watch.
