New roads put in
The city of West Lafayette is drawing a slew of construction projects to their close. A new roundabout on Northwestern has been added in addition to the roundabouts popping up on Cumberland, some of which lay on new stretch of road close to the athletic complex.
Brad Krause’14 has mixed feelings about the new construction.
“I understand the benefits of [roundabouts], like keeping the traffic moving, but the streets getting torn up every summer make the whole process really annoying to me,” he said.
Krause believes that in a lot of cases, construction projects are more trouble than they are worth.
“I’m obviously not a traffic expert, but I never noticed a huge traffic problem that demanded closing Cumberland for months, or closing Northwestern which is what they will be doing this summer,” he said.
Cami Brown’13 has a more positive view on the new roads.
“Personally I feel like I am in Tron when I go around them at night. But they aren’t that bad as people say they are,” she said. “People probably just had one awkward experience where people did not do what they were supposed to and it just ruined them all.” she said.
Austin Moore ’13 said his only problem was how long the process takes.
“Obviously it’s kind of annoying when it feels like your entire city is perpetually under construction, but as they finish various projects, the finished product is usually more efficient and better looking,” he said.
Moore’s only request to the city is to finish up any future plans as quickly as possible.
