Robot Fights
While the many programmers are working to make the robot function, the other builders entertain themselves by building Lego robots and making them fight. After finishing in the workshop, the builders had to continue working so they used extra pieces to make smaller robots. “I enjoy building the robot and having the freedom to practice building projects that I want to build. Any of the scraps that we have extra we can use, so it’s nice to have extra parts that we can use," Everest Mentzer (10) said.
Coding the Robot
Once the robot is completely put together, the programmers have to input many different codes and keys into the robot to make it function. Making the robot operate is one of the hardest things that the members of the Robotics team has to face.
The Programmers
While the builders are working on making the many different components of the robot in the workshop, the coders in the other room must keep themselves busy by creating codes that will allow for the robot to turn on and operate. "Programming (is what I enjoy most about being on the Robotics team). Also, the atmosphere is great, you make a lot of friends, like a lot of my friends I met through robotics. So, it’s just a load of fun and all," Sai Karthik (12) said.
Piecing Together
Johnny Shen (10) and Robert Richard (12) examine pieces of the robot that have yet to be put together. After making the individual pieces, they all must be put together to form the designed robot.
Program Designing
The very first thing that must happen before starting in the workshop is designing the robot and making sure it's possible to be made. Members of the robotics team spent many weekdays and nights brainstorming ideas for the robot they need to build for their up-and-coming competition in March. Even with all the stress of the designing, the team still maintained a joyful attitude throughout the process. "Our team bonding activities are always very fun. We always go out as a team, especially after events and stuff, and they tend to evolve into all types of nonsense, but they’re really fun, and I think it’s a lot of fun to get to know, especially, underclassmen." Anjali Vanamala (12) said.
