Salt n Pepa: Snacking sustains Teens
After an exhausting day of school, many students find themselves raiding their parents’ fridges for snacks that can fill their empty stomachs. Most people snack on a regular basis, but how healthy is it? What kinds of snacks are there for the variety of palates in the world? Salt n Pepa are here to answer these questions and help the West Side student body snack better.
Some ideas for snacks include pretzels and peanut butter, hummus and crudites, lightly buttered and salted popcorn, and nuts to satisfy your salty cravings. A down side to serving a savory taste is afterwards, you generally want water or something to drink- which means more stuff to get from the fridge. Let’s be real and admit none of us want to get up more than what is totally necessary.
If you are looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, McDonald’s fruit n’ yogurt parfait and strawberries with light cool whip are great. Nutella is a sweet substitute for peanut butter- anything peanut butter can do, Nutella can do better. Despite the taste, however, peanut butter is definitely the healthier of the two if you are watching calories- it has protein, while Nutella just has a chocolate-y goodness.
If you are on the go after school, for lessons or tutoring, popcorn or sugar snap peas are great ideas. Neither require extra flavorings or a plate. While it might be tempting to add cheese or butter to the popcorn- it’s just extra calories. Skip the flavorings, unless you find them totally necessary. We aren’t the boss of you.
Keep hungry, West Side- but not too much. You just might need a snack.
