Head swim coach resigns

Boys’ and girls’ head swimming and diving coach, Debbie Fruitt, resigned after this past season. The word is out about the open position and the athletic department is working to find the most qualified replacement.
After this past swimming and diving season, Coach Debbie Fruitt resigned as head coach in order to spend more time with her family. Athletic Director Brock Touloukian says he’s taking the usual procedures of hiring a new coach.
“We have multiple teacher openings,” said Touloukian. “The word’s out that we’re looking.”
With many teachers retiring after this school year, there will be openings in the math, science, biology and Spanish departments. They are waiting to replace the swimming coach once teachers are hired. Touloukian is making sure to find the most qualified coach to replace Fruitt, who was head coach here for two years after assisting Coach Wachs for nine years.
Although many of the swimmers swim year round, there are no school workouts over the summer so there is plenty of time to find the best coach possible. Hayley Karpick ’15 said it should be “someone who demands everyone working hard” and “someone with patience.”
Olivia Kirchner ’16 agreed that the new coach should be “someone who pushes us to do our best and provides a good structure for our program.”
After other miscues throughout this year, including all the senior girls deciding to quit before the season, the future of the swim program remains uncertain.
